Candidate Questions

Candidates must be registered to vote, must be full-time residents of the city for at least one year prior to qualifying, and must not hold any other elective office.

A potential candidate may begin raising funds at any time after filing designation of a campaign treasurer and bank designation with the City Clerk. The campaign account must be separate from any personal accounts and used only for depositing campaign funds and making campaign expenditures.

New Resident Information
|

The Town of Gypsum charges customers for water, sewer and trash services. If you are purchasing a new home, please call Public Works at 970-524-5024 to set up a new account. Those home buyers who are purchasing an existing home, the Title Company will automatically fax us the Warranty Deed after your closing and we will change the owners name at that time. All charges are prorated to the closing date. We currently do not accept Visa or MasterCard payments. Checks, cash and money orders are welcome.

Waste Management Recycling – Containers for recycling are located at the northwest corner of Columbine Market’s parking lot. Materials accepted for recycling are: corrugated cardboard, newspapers, aluminum and steel cans, and #1 and #2 plastic containers. Please keep this area clean and free from non-recyclable materials

There are restrictions on farm animals in residential areas. Special Use Permits can be obtained in certain instances with properties over an acre and with special considerations or grandfathered clauses still in effect. Nuisance animals can be reported to Code Enforcement at 970-524-7688 or by calling Animal Control at 970-328-3647. Aggressive animals are not tolerated in the Town of Gypsum.

Yes. Parking Violations can be paid within 20 days for a 50% reduction in the fine. After 20 days, the full amount of the fine is due. If payments for fines are not received within 30 days a request to pay the fine or appear in Court will be mailed. Contempt and/or Bench Warrants can be issued for outstanding and unpaid parking violations.

It depends. If your traffic ticket has "SUMMONS" written on it, you are required to appear in Court and have your fine assessed by the Judge. If you have a fine amount written on your ticket, you can pay that amount. There are incentives if you pay within 20 days. Tickets with 4 or more points assessed (check your ticket) you are eligible for a two point reduction if paid with 20 days. Tickets with 3 or less point are eligible for a one point reduction Tickets with 0 points assessed are eligible for a 50% reduction in the FINE if paid within 20 days. If you want to contest your ticket, please call the Municipal Court Clerk at 970-524-7514 to confirm your name on the docket for the next court date. It depends. If your ticket has the word "SUMMONS" written on it by the Animal Control Officer, you must appear in Court on the date listed on the ticket. If you have a fine amount written on your ticket, you can pay that instead of coming to Court. Payments received within 20 days are eligible for a 60% percent reduction. If your fine is $100 and you pay within 20 days, the fine due is only $40.00. If you have any questions, please contact the Municipal Court Clerk at 970-524-7514.

The Town of Gypsum currently does not provide curb side recycling services. This is one area that we are looking in to. All recycling materials need to be taken to the Recycling location next to Westar Bank on Oak Ridge Drive. This is next to Columbine Market. Some recycling needs to be separated. Please do not leave trash at this location.
|

• Trash must be placed in the container, trash left on the ground or that is too large for the container will not be picked up.
• Lids on the containers must be closed. Trash will not be picked up if the lid is open. It is the homeowners responsibility to ensure the lid is closed on the designated pickup day.
• Keep vehicles and other objects from blocking trash containers. Containers must be 3 feet from any object. If the truck is unable to reach the container, it will not get picked up. Our drivers will not get out of the vehicle.
• Containers must be at the curb by 7:00 a.m. on scheduled pickup day. The arrow on the container lid must point towards the street. Please remove containers from the curb within 24 hours after pickup.
• Additional trash pickup service is available and will be charged in addition to your monthly fee.
