Gypsum Shooting Sports Park Closed

Media Release – 07.05.18 – Gypsum Shooting Sports Park Closed Until Further Notice

Gypsum, CO. — Due to Stage 2 fire restrictions and extremely dry and dangerous wildfire conditions, the Gypsum Shooting Sports Park is closed—effective immediately—until further notice.  The park is owned by the Town of Gypsum and managed by Eagle Valley Rod & Gun Club.

With the Lake Christine fire near Basalt having consumed over 5,000 acres since Tuesday evening, the Town of Gypsum concluded it is unacceptable risk to allow the gun club to remain open given current fire conditions and the existing strain on fire mitigation resources and public safety agencies across the region.

The period of the closure has not been determined and will be wholly dependent on significant improvements in the wildland fire outlook for the region.  Up to date information regarding the status of the Shooting Sports Park will be available on the Town of Gypsum’s Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/townofgypsum/.  For up to date information on the progression of the Lake Christine fire, please visit the Eagle County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page at www.facebook.com/EagleCountySO/.
